Andrew Duong
Andrew Duong is a Melbourne based artist and his art practice is driven by his perspective as a second-generation Cambodian. His work pays homage to the family through past stories and their connection to current political issues. Andrew is one of the founding members of Connection Arts Space, a curator at Maroondah City Council, and an artist at Garage 35 Art Studio.
Aysha Tufa
Aysha was born and raised on unceded Bunurong lands based in Greater Dandenong, and is of Oromo and Turkish heritage. She is interested in creativity and community. When she is not doom-scrolling she does oil painting and sells them as prints. Her work depicts what she sees around her, past and present. Inspired by Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and Ingrid Christiansen she hopes to work towards capturing quiet, sentimental moments.
Fathiha Raihan
Fathiah is a henna artist and emerging multi-disciplinary raised in the south-eastern suburbs of Naarm (Melbourne). Inspired by cyclical natures, ephemerality and intimacy as ritual, her works are created with the intention to be transformed and re-transformed for many years to come.
Gen Townsend
Gen is a visual artist with experience in community arts, welfare, and educational settings. She co-founded Connection Arts Space, a community gallery in Dandenong with a vision to make art accessible. Through a scholarship, she later studied in Fiji and Cambodia over ten months to better understand the role of the arts in the Asia-Pacific region. Gen currently works as the artsbus Program Manager, which sees her working with creatives and artists across Victoria to create inclusive arts opportunities for kids. Fun fact – Gen has a black belt in Taekwondo!
Kush Kuiy
Kush loves building new things and describes herself as a creative alchemist/experience designer/art enthusiast/bird watcher/student of life/indie producer.
Kush stages innovative experiences that showcase working alongside a young team of creatives, and in collaboration with the Nuer Community Foundation of Australia and City of Monash, Kush successfully inaugurated Rise of South Sudan. This biennial benefit concert celebrates Melbourne’s vibrant South-Sudanese and wider African populations, highlighting individual artistic excellence and our collective creative capacity. She is also motivated by the imminent urgency of the climate crisis, the opportunities available for social impact with the possibilities awakened by disruptive technology, and the optimism needed to tackle the complex challenges ahead. She is also a member of WOT Collective.
Noni
ArtByTdr is based in Naarm (Melbourne) Australia, who is best known for his Punjabi Graffiti, realistic, concept and digital art. Born in 1986 in Chandigarh, India. His artwork is often based on events which goes in or around his life, includes philosophy and politics.
Thurbil Pouk
Thurbil (Doxa) is a South Sudanese Artist and is a painter. Her work is an ode to God, in the form of an open letter. Her work represents an outward expression of continuous internal dialogue. Through oil and acrylic paint, she chronicles the intersectionality of black womanhood against the backdrop of religious spirituality within her life. Thurbil’s work is bold and vibrant, edging on surreal. She was also the recipient of the WOT Collective artist residency at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick and was recently aired on three episodes of I Heart Art, on Channel 31.
Vaquero Neto
Vaquero Neto (Ernesto Thomas Vaquero) says “unconscious art is a new concept I’m trying to introduce. It advocates for everyone and explores the idea that anyone can paint”. No intent, no goal, no expectations. Neto is a formidable artist that encourages introspection and allowing what ever lies within to flow out and onto the canvas. He has previously exhibitioned work at Black Cat Gallery in Fitzroy and was also a recipient of the the WOT Collective artist residency at the Old Cheese Factory in Berwick.
Zakiria Tahirian
Zakiria lived in Australia for various amounts of time but has already made a significant impact on society, both through their artistic endeavour and outside of it. Zakiria Tahirian was trained at the Hatif Art School in Pakistan. He is now a practicing artist based in Melbourne. Zakiria has also worked as a curator, exhibitions coordinator and workshop facilitator besides his artistic practice.
Zia Atahi
Zia Atahi was born in Afghanistan and has spent his early childhood life in Quetta, Pakistan, and now calls Melbourne, Australia home for the last 18 years. His work has been exhibited in several galleries in Melbourne. Zia Atahi is currently a resident artist at Garage 35 Art Studio in Noble Park with a group of local artists from Melbourne.
